Maybe you just bought a new Maserati Quattroporte and wish you could enjoy that same inimitable Bowers & Wilkins sound system when you’re not in your car. Or maybe you just wish you could afford a new Quattroporte and want to get as close to that luxury experience as possible. Either way, B&W has you covered with its new P5 Maserati Edition Mobile Headphones.

The P5 Maserati Edition is, as its name implies, a hot-rodded version of the company’s popular P5 – by far one of my all-time favorite mobile headphones. Like the original P5, the Maserati Edition sports a pair of 40mm Mylar diaphragm dynamic drivers driven by specially developed, ultra-linear neodymium magnets, with excellent sensitivity (meaning your iPhone won’t struggle a bit to drive these cans to rocking levels), all wrapped up in a luxuriant, comfortable package that provides great noise isolation when you’re on the go.

So not only should expect the same ultra-comfortable fit as the original P5, but also the same sweet sound quality – a sound that can be best described as energetic and detailed without being overly bright or fatiguing. Silky smooth midrange that makes vocals sound positively delightful. A nice, rich bottom end without that overbearing hip-hop-headphone boom and bloat.

You’ll also get the same user-replaceable Made For iPhone-approved cable, which facilitates voice communications and device controls, as well as a dedicated audio-only cable if you don’t want to be pestered by phone calls when you’re enjoying your favorite tunes. One of the things I love best about the design of the P5 – and this remains true for the Maserati Edition, as well – is that the cable jack is hidden behind the magnetically attached left ear pad, with a nice cable management channel built into the casing of the headphone itself, so you never have to worry about accidentally unplugging the cable at inopportune moments.

So, what sets the P5 Maserati Edition apart from its non-Maserati counterpart? Primarily a new aesthetic, designed to invoke the luxury of Maserati, including fine-grain natural leather dyed in the auto maker’s “iconic and distinctive deep racing blue.” The P5 Maserati Edition also features the Maserati Trident emblem on its headband, and on its exclusive quilted leather travel pouch (a big step up from the very nice cloth pouch that can with my P5s).

Amazingly, all of this luxurious style and performance doesn’t come at a luxury price. You’ll be able to pick up the Bowers & Wilkins P5 Maserati Edition mobile hi-fi headphones for $399.99 soon at your local B&W Diamond Retailer, or online at
